What’s in the area?
The Highland House is situated in the Nieuwe Nieuwstraat, a street that is located in the oldest and most authentic part of the city. Nearby, you’ll find several small bars, restaurants and cafés. Dam Square, the main shopping street and Central Station are all within walking distance of The Highland House. A little further away, but a must if you prefer vintage and designer shopping, are The Nine Streets. This quaint and quirky neighbourhood is situated along Amsterdam’s grandest canals and features a number of cozy cafés. In addition, and not to be missed, is the Haarlemmerstraat and the Noordermarkt flea market. Here you can find anything, from hats and leather handbags to fresh juices and Dutch cheese.
Feel the need to take a break from the busy urban jungle? Pack a picnic and relax in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark or enjoy a glass of wine on the spacious terrace of the Blauwe Theehuis.
If you enjoy Asian shops and cuisine, then take a walk down the Zeedijk, the main street in Amsterdam’s Chinatown. For more luxurious shopping head towards the department store, the Bijenkorf. The store is situated on Dam Square along with the National Monument, the Nieuwe Kerk, and the Royal Palace.
